ERL Redesigns 12LS Pump
ERL's 12LS pump has been rede- signed to achieve optimal levels of per- formance and efficiency. Each pump is customized to fit the customer's needs, and custom pump heads ensure a perfect match to existing pump configurations. The 12LS pump can flow the same as a Byron Jackson 13LS and 33 percent more than a Byron Jackson 12LS. ERL's 12LS pump can also discharge a 30,000-bar- rel barge one hour and 52 minutes fast- er than a Byron Jackson 12LS, the com- pany said. By utilizing ductile iron on all of its castings, ERL is able to give custom- ers twice the strength of typical cast iron pumps, resulting in a longer life. By as- sembling each pump vertically, the com- pany perfectly aligns every component concentrically with the next, giving the pump a perfect fit. By testing pumps in a third-party laboratory, ERL is able to guarantee that its customers get the per- formance they desire with the proof to back it up. Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling has allowed the compa- ny to optimize every component, mean- ing less fuel wasted and less time needed to discharge a barge. As the company celebrates its 50th year in business, ERL continues to be a leader and innovator in the industry. ERL 12LS pump.
ACBL Successfully Completes Recapitalization
By David Murray
American Commercial Barge Line Holding Corporation announced April 30 that it has successfully completed its re- capitalization and emerged from Chapter 11 reorganization. "ACBL is moving forward as an inland barge transportation leader and continu- ing to provide customers with safe, reli- able and competitive solutions," the com- pany said in a release. "With $200 million in new equity capital and having reduced its funded debt by approximately $1 bil- lion, the company has a strong financial foundation to support investments in fu- ture growth initiatives." "Today is in an important day for our company, our team members, our cus- tomers and our business partners," said Mark Knoy, president and CEO of ACBL. "Having quickly completed our recapital- ization, we are a stronger company with the financial flexibility to build on our de- cades-long legacy of industry leadership. Looking ahead, we will be able to devote our available resources to competing in today's market. We look forward to con- tinuing to provide the safest, most cost- effective and environmentally friendly barge transportation solutions for many years to come." Barge business has been steady, Knoy told The Waterways Journal , despite the impacts to the economy of oil price plunges and the COVID-19 virus. "I just spoke to two captains with ACBL who have been with us for 40 years, starting out as deckhands," he said. "Despite the unprecedented situation we find ourselves in, two things about our business never change: people pay us to move cargoes from Point A to Point B, and we need captains to run our vessels." Knoy said he hopes to see export activ- ity to China resume. "On behalf of all of us at ACBL, I'd like to thank our customers, vendors and other business partners for their sup- port throughout this process," he said. "I am also deeply grateful to our dedi- cated teammates for their hard work and unwavering commitment to working safely. They will continue to be the ulti- mate drivers of our success as we con- tinue meeting the evolving needs of our customers." Milbank LLP served as the compa- ny's legal counsel, Greenhill & Company served as its financial adviser and Alvarez & Marsal North America LLC served as restructuring adviser.
